How Blood Pressure Machine is used

The cuff is wrapped carefully around the upper arm and is attached to the manometer scale. Then a stethoscope is placed over the pulse at the cubital fossal below the cuff. Then air is pumped into the cuff to overcome the artery pulsation. Then the pressure in the cuff is slowly released by turning the pressure release valve screw. When the thumping of the artery can be heard through the stethoscope, the pressure is read on the manometer. This is systolic pressure. The pressure in the cuff is now further reduced until the thumping over the pulse becomes faint. The reading on the manometer now records the diastolic pressure
